Yoga on the beach in Kerala
Kerala is a state in southern India between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats. Most people know it as the calm part of the country – separated from the crowded cities and characterized instead by its own natural vibrancy. When you travel here, you’ll find native spices and teas, and easy-going locals that are happy to impart their traditions. Watch skilled men and women glide their way through a martial arts practice, or other rituals that connect the mind and body.

Are New York and Chicago the Tolstoy and Dostoevsky of American Fiction?
Andrew Seal makes his case over at Blographia Literaria: Sorry, Boston. Sorry, L.A. Sorry, D.C. Sorry, San Fran. Sorry, the South. You have your claims, no doubt, but they are as the claims of Pushkin, Lermontov, Chekhov, or Gogol. To be sure, Tolstoy and Dostoevsky do not account for the entirety of Russian literature, certainly do not exhaust all options, but they are irreplaceable, irreducible forces upon the landscape of the national literature, and so it is with New York and Chicago, Chicago and New York. There’s plenty to chew on in the comments, too. (Via The Book Bench)

Side order of slop and service to match
If you ever need to satisfy your inner masochist, this is the place to do it. The Worst pastrami I've ever had.....full of gristle and served up with some bad ass atitude. My dining companions ordered differently and walked away with the same conclusion. Drinking a can of lye would be more pleasant, and a helluv a lot cheaper.

Ideal location for family getaway!!!
We stayed at Shorepine Village for a family get together and found the staff, location and especially amenities to be outstanding!! The location was perfect; with private beach access and short walk to the Pelican Pub very convenient. I highly recommend families with young children to check this company out. The village is quiet and the trails throughout are great for children to ride bikes and easy to lug all of the kids stuff to the beach. Our whole family had a terrific time!! The best tip I could give would be to call the office and ask about the amenities provided in the home you have reserved. We found that we could have packed a lot less. The house had a well stocked kitchen, all soaps were provided, there were bikes to borrow, and even beach toys in the house we stayed in.

The Waitukubuli National Trail in Dominica
Dominica, the Caribbean's Nature Island, is looking to share its beauty with hikers through the development of a 115-mile cross-island walking trail. The Waitukubuli National Trail - named after the Carib Indian name for Dominica - is a major initiative by the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, in partnership with the Regional Council of Martinique and funded by the European Union. The Waitukubuli National Trail is divided into 14 continuous sections. Hikers can expect to cover its entire length in two weeks, or just choose individual trail segments to enjoy. The trail passes through mountainous landscapes and rainforests, showcasing the rivers and waterfalls for which Dominica is famous and taking visitors into the heart of local communities. Here, Ashton Lugay of the Waitukub...

There’s nothing like that “Rocky Mountain high†to get you through a workout. When you travel to Colorado for a rock climbing experience, you’re entering a zone where serious outdoorsy folk roam. Since folks here spend as much time in local breweries as they do trekking up a mountain, visiting Colorado is the perfect getaway for anyone looking to explore a new place, try a new exercise, and cheat a little with a hand-crafted ale.

10 Worst Destinations Debunked? A New Take on Some Traveler's Must Not-Sees
Some of the worst destinations are really not, or are they?  Read more here about some destinations that are unjustly labeled.Travel destinations are a lot like high school social cliques: Most of what outsiders know about them is hearsay. The only way to discover what they're really like is to go see for yourself, says Chuck Thompson. Which is what the freelance travel writer set out to do in researching his new book, To Hellholes and Back: Bribes, Lies, and the Art of Extreme Tourism (Holt, $15). His conclusion: Some places with bad-boy reputations can be quite nice — once you get to know them.

Portugal: Try to catch a fado show
The word fado means fate, and, like the blues, fado songs are full of fatalism. The image of a black-shawled fadista, head thrown back, eyes closed with emotion, voice rising and falling with soulful song, is quintessentially Portuguese. Many casas de fado are also restaurants; some offer a mix of fado and folk-dancing shows.

Review for Lexidog Boutique & Social Club
LexiDog Boutique & Social Club was founded in May 2002 by Portland native Suzanne Hein, and of course her Min Pin, Lexi. Suzanne's extensive experience as a Vice-President of Merchandising for a large regional retailer created the desire to continue her passion for retail with her own company. Her love of Lexi gave her the inspiration for LexiDog; a place where dogs are our children who deserve to be a little spoiled, as well as a 'social' place where parents could bring their dog to a fun, loving and safe daycare while they were at work, and enjoy 'social' activities centered around their pet.

If you liked The Bridges Of Madison County (or even if ya didn't) you'll like visiting Irish Bend covered bridge. It is wonderful place to visit and so peaceful out there. It's on the campus of Oregon State but you'd never know it. Lots of trees in the area and a nearby creek, too. The road there is paved so it makes for a comfortable bicycle ride or small hike. I recommend that people bring their own water supply as there are no fountains in the area. Also, bring a camera you'll want to take pictures of the sights along the way in addition to the bridge.

Very pretty walk and bicycle friendly.
I like going to the Riverfront park as often as possible. I sometimes walk along the river or ride my bicycle. On Saturdays during the Spring and Summer months, the Farmer's Market takes place and I sometimes busk down in that area. It's a pretty vibrant air during that time. Even during the winter months, the river walk can be interesting. If you're a photographer, it's a good place to take pictures of the public art, the flowers and trees, the bridges and of course, the main star, the Willamette River...if you're lucky you'll see the Oregon State rowing team going through their paces. Along the trail there are signs posted where you can learn about Corvallis history and near the bridge, there is an historic marker showing where the first riverboats came...

Powells....The BEST excuse for going to Portland!
Whenever I decide to go into the city, I need to figure out if it's a "portland" trip or a POWELL's trip...if it's the latter, I know I will stay there all day. There is so much to see and buy. Plenty of great gift items in addition to books, books and more books! Magazine section is pretty extensive, too. I like to look through the stacks while having a coffee...especially on a rainy day! If you can't find what you want on the shelves, the clerks are very good about helping you put in an order for it. There are several branches located throughout the city, but my favorites are the main store dowtown and also at PDX airport.
