Details are still thin on this one, but it looks as though the Judd
Apatow comedy crew is turning its attention to travel. Wanderlust
stars Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd as an “urban
couple” who hit the road, aiming to “live a more
counter-culture lifestyle.” Apatow is producing, while Rudd
and director David Wain are collaborating on the screenplay. David
Wain also directed one of our favorite summer vacation movies,
“Wet Hot American Summer,” and Paul Rudd is one of my
favorite actors, so from where I’m sitting this looks
promising. “Wanderlust” is due out in 2011. (Via Frank

The Atlantic has a dispatch from Bill Donahue, who’s been
traveling in a changing Mongolia. As Donahue explains, the
long-dead warlord is central the country’s new commercial

conquests were downplayed in the history books during seven decades
of de facto Soviet rule, the nomad who ruled an empire stretching
from the Caspian Sea to Siberia reemerged in 1990, as democracy was
being established. Today, he is a poor nation’s avatar of
hope—and he’s becoming a major industry. In

All-inclusive vacations are a great way to enjoy a set price for
accommodations, food and beverages, amenities and activities,
depending on what each resort offers. On cheap Caribbean vacations
as a couple, our favorite all-inclusive vacations meant turning a
blind eye to our bar tab for all those great tropical drinks. Now,
our trips to the Caribbean consist of water sports; games and
kids’ clubs; theme nights and restaurants. And
rather than having to reach for your wallet for every activity,
all-inclusive vacation are the perfect solution. It's not only
easier to plan a budget, it's keeps your mind strictly on the fun
quotient, not the financial bottom line. What all-inclusive
vacations add up to is bang for your buck.

Claire Berlinski offers a provocative take on Turkish culture in
World Affairs: As the First General Law of Travel tells us, every
nation is its stereotype. Americans are indeed fat and overbearing,
Mexicans lazy and pilfering, Germans disciplined and perverted. The
Turks, as everyone knows, are insane and deceitful. I say this
affectionately. I live in Turkey. On good days, I love Turkey. But
I have long since learned that its people are apt to go berserk on
you for no reason whatsoever, and you just can’t trust a word
they say. As one Turkish friend put it (a man who has spent many
years in America, and thus grasps the depth of the cultural chasm),
“It’s not that they’re bad. They don’t even
know they’re lying.” (Via AL Daily)

‘round-the-world trip, and we wish him all the best.
He’ll be sorely missed.
I love PC games. I don’t know why – I just
do. It’s been about two years that I’ve
been into the hidden object and dash style, but I also love the
ones that have you doing stuff, like solving mysteries by gathering
objects and doing something with them. However, I get
stumped (and frustrated) [...]
One of the things that I absolutely love is personalized stationery
and cards. I feel that with the internet, people just do not send
enough tangible cards and letters anymore. So when I found out
about Sweet Paper Lane, I checked out their site and found a wide
selection of the most adorable designs! COMPANY DESCRIPTION Sweet

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

During my recent BlogHer trip I realized something . . . I needed a
really good case for my iPad. The one I have is just a basic black
case that doesn’t offer much protection from constant
movement and doesn’t really represent my personality.
It’s just something to get my iPad from point A to [...]
Vera lives with her family in the Republic of Illinowa
– what’s left of the
Midwestern US in a future where the politics of water determine
whether you have enough water to thrive…or
not. Vera’s family is just getting by. And then
she meets Kai, a boy who seems to have a limitless supply of water.
When Kai is kidnapped, Vera convinces her brother Will that they
need to rescue him, and the two set off on the adventure of their
lives. This one really works because of the atmosphere and world
building. I really believed in this dried out land and in these
dried out people, with their thick tongues, flaky skin and
willingness to do anything just to get a drink. And I am a fan of
anything that frames the complexities of geo-politics in an
exciting way. Stracher is able to weave a convinc...
Earlier, I reviewed THE WATER WARS, a book I really enjoyed reading
(my review). I am excited to welcome Author Cameron Stracher to
Dystopian August today!Reading THE WATER WARS made me constantly
want to drink water. What’s the thirstiest
you’ve ever been in your life?I run a lot, so
I'm often very thirsty. If I'm in the suburbs, I'll look for people
who are watering their lawns, and stop to drink from their
sprinklers. The last couple weeks, however, it's been incredibly
hot in New York, and there are water restrictions, and most people
don't water their lawn at the time I go running. I ran 8 miles the
other day when it was 103 degrees and humid. I don't know if it was
the thirstiest I've ever been, but it was close. I must have drunk
about two gallons of water when I finally got hom...
Cassia lives in a society that decides everything for its citizens
for the greatest good of them all – even who
you marry. When Cassia is matched with her best friend Xander, she
is thrilled. But when viewing her matching card, another face
flashes on the screen – that of mysterious
classmate Ky. This seeming glitch awakens an awareness of forbidden
desires within Cassia, and for the first time she begins to
question a society where the individual has no right to
choose.MATCHED is without a doubt a well constructed novel, hitting
all the expected beats of a YA dystopian novel. And while there may
be few surprises for avid readers of the genre, there are some
genuine discussion-worthy developments. The society is set up to
look to its citizens like a utopia. Strict regulations nearly gu...

Are certain breeds of dogs more prone to die while being shipped by
air? Last month, the U.S. Department of Transportation warned dog
owners that “short-faced” dogs —
such as English bulldogs, pugs, French bulldogs and Staffordshire
terriers — made up about half the pet dogs that
die while being transported by plane in cargo holds. [...]
